Jesper Lundgaard is one of Denmark's most prominent bassists and his permanent trio was established in 2004 consisting of Jesper Lundgaard (bass), Hans Ulrik (tenor sax) and Niclas Knudsen (guitar). The trio describes their music as a playground where they try out new compositions and pay homage to great icons in the history of Jazz.

On the brand new album entitled 2016 you may enjoy ten compositions: eight originals written by each band member and an updated version of two standards: “The meaning of the Blues” by Bobby Troup and “Naima” by John Coltrane. The music is fresh, lyrical and blues oriented with a gentle touch of Nordic folklore.

This album investigates some blues aspects, reflecting the times and our personal impressions. Not every theme is strictly a blues progression, but they all have a bluesy feel. We have tried to create an intimate, dry and intense album, utilizing a minimalistic approach” says  Jesper Lundgaard.

Tor Hammerø Music Blog

"Along with the guitarist Niclas Knudsen, we have met here at home a number of times with the funky organ trio Ibrahim Electric, and tenor saxophonist Hans Ulrik, Lundgaard takes us on a delightful journey in a drum free landscape. Those who live in the delusion that this cannot swing nust think again as quickly as possible and acquire "2016" - here comes the proof that it does work."
