This CD opens with a world-premiere. A jazz tune never recorded by its composer or, for all we know, by anyone else. I got the sheet-music and the title for Sidney Bechet’s “Blue Boat” from a guy up in Stockholm, who got it from a local clarinet player – explains Vig, who, even with the help of several experts, has not yet been able to trace the origin of the tune further back. Steen Vig was born in 1944 in Copenhagen and has previously worked and recorded with Ben Webster, Jay McShann, Al Casey, Sammy Price, George Kelly, Champion Jack Dupree, Claude Williams Doc Cheatham, Wild Bill Davison and Gene Connors.
